To be, or not to be.

Two months. Two months of busting my ass. Two months of not getting paid. Two months of commuting. Two months of shooting for the moon. Not a star in sight. I was tired. Barely getting any sleep. The life of an unpaid intern. This time last year I had money. The world was my oyster. Now what? I didn't plan for this. I want this job. I think. There's no guarantee. My hard work could be for nothing. That's why I'm writing. Yes. My side hustle. My side hustle that makes no money. I enjoy it though. I like covering stories. Events. News. I feel like a real journalist. Right in the trenches. I haven't covered a decent story in weeks. Horrible writers block. I can feel it slipping. The internship. The drive. The motivation. I want to give up. Throw in the towel. Nice run. This weekend is St. Patricks day though. A glimmer of hope. There's a parade in Atlantic City. I want to cover it. I have an idea. A story. Maybe. Just maybe. Maybe I can turn a trick. Stay afloat. Maybe I won't sink. This ship has no lifeboats. I have to make this work. I have to pull a rabbit out of a hat.
The parade is a big deal. It only happens once a year. There's always a huge turnout. It takes place on the boardwalk. People as far as the eye can see. Everyone enjoying themselves. Even the few, or many, who have too much to drink before getting there. The idea is simple. Here's a parade. Outside. All sorts of people having fun. Just a few feet away, blocked by a wall, exists the local casino goers. They aren't attending. They sit glued to their chairs. Slipping one more quarter into the slot machine; one last desperate attempt to win. Ignoring the rapturous all-inclusive enjoyment on the other side of that wall. There are no windows. No clocks. Inside you belong to them. All they have to do is walk outside. Yet they sit bound to those chairs. They are the property of the casino. Paid for by their desperation. The regulars.
That was my idea. This was my story. Along with my perspective of the parade. All I needed were a few interviews. Maybe a picture or two. Then all I had to do was write it up. I was excited. I still had half of my work day left. We were running an ELISA in our lab. An assay we used to measure specific proteins in our patients blood samples. We had been doing this for weeks. It was a tedious process. We had to be very careful. I usually took some Valium so my hands wouldn't shake. Today was one of those days.
During my break I went to the courtyard. I had fashioned a bong out of some lab equipment. I forgot to clean one of the instruments, so I was praying whatever was in there wasn't flammable. It was not. While I was smoking David called me. He asked if I was going to the parade. Hot dog. Yes I am. He said Amelia had asked him if he could get some cocaine. She wanted to go to the parade with us. At this point I was locked in. Now I have people to go with. I'll just split up for a bit to cover my story and get my interviews.
I was eager to get home. I decided I would leave work a bit early. I went back to the office I was borrowing at the time. I kept my supplies in there. A case of Fish Eye. Six pack of beer. A bottle of Oxycodone. Some cannabis. An Altoids can housed my Xanax and Valium. I put everything in my brief case along with a bottle of the Fish Eye and two beers. I walked across the skyway to the medical school. This was a nice building to take care of business. The research building is nice, but it was built in the sixties. Kind of falling apart. A bathroom on the first floor was my destination. I had to kill five minutes. Inside I took a Xanax and drank a beer.
I made my way to the subway. Transferred at Market. Destination 30th street. When I arrived I bought my ticket. Still had to kill twenty minutes. Into the bathroom I went. I went in the stall and drank another beer. I like to catch a nice buzz before taking the train. I put my empty can on the toilet and walked out of the stall. Directly outside of the stall stood a police officer. Shit. I should have put the empty can away. I smiled at the officer and walked out. Thirty steps outside of the bathroom he caught up with me. "Hey, come here.".
I turned around to comply. He asked if the beer was mine. I knew if I lied he'd nail me. I told him it was mine. I also apologized for leaving it. He told me it was illegal to drink in the bathroom. I told him I was aware of that. "What's in the case?".
"Research."
...
"For what?"
I told him I was a medical school student, and handed over my identification. A driver's license. A student I.D. from the university. An employee I.D. from the medical school. All with my name on it. I am not a medical school student. That sounds much better than a new intern though. He lectured me about how I'm a smart guy. That I should know better. I agreed and apologized. I told him the seats on the train were uncomfortable. That beer helps. He laughed. He returned my cards and told me to stay out of trouble.
That was close. There is no research in my brief case. That's for damn sure. I have to be more careful. The train was easy. I made it home and told David I was in the area. We spent the night exchanging stories and waiting for a couple grams of cocaine to arrive. Delivery. The future is now. We told Amelia we had the blow. We also had a place to observe the parade. We had a political connection in the city. Unfortunately they were away for the weekend. I would have loved to interview them. Fortunately they were away for the weekend. We were using their office to pregame. This was ideal. It's not easy to do cocaine out in the open. Now we had a basecamp.
It was the morning of the parade. I was excited. Today I cover my story. My breakout story. I'll sell it to the press. A legitimate side hustle. I will not sink. No lifeboats. No need. This is it. The American dream. David and I met up after breakfast. We brewed some coffee. I took two Valium. We sampled the cocaine and poured some Irish whiskey in our mugs. A proper way to start the day. Amelia was going to meet us at the office. A taxi took us into the city. Along the way we stopped to pick up a fresh bottle of Jameson and two six pack of Guinness. Extra stout.
We unlocked the building and made our way upstairs. What a beautiful office. Perfect view of where the parade would pass by. Gorgeous ocean view. The Atlantic is an acquired taste. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. I loved it. I grew up with it. Amelia was bringing friends. No problem. We have plenty of room. Hannah and Ellie.
Ellie.
I haven't seen Ellie all year. We grew up together. I had a crush on her all through high school. The girl from East Egg. We've had our ups and downs. I know one thing. Now I'm extremely nervous. Even with all this junk in my system. Fuck man. I don't know. She just strikes a chord in my feels. It's hard to describe. I'm happy though. I know that. We went to the parade before. I remember it well. We had fun. We ran through the Atlantic Club Casino laughing. We felt like outlaws. We were teenagers. We weren't allowed to be in the casino. Now the Atlantic Club is closed. A deserted building. An empty shell of a memory. That's how I felt without Ellie around anymore.
They arrived and we let them in the office. We went upstairs. It was so nice to see my friends. It was even nicer to see Ellie. She looked amazing. A real sight for sore eyes. I almost didn't even want to drink anymore. We did though. A moment later and out comes the cocaine. David broke up even lines across the desk. It was a beautiful desk. Amelia had done coke before at her University. Hannah and Ellie started asking questions. They had never done it before. I started to explain. Then I began to feel uncomfortable. What the fuck am I doing? I don't want this. Hannah sniffed a line. There was a pause. Ellie went in for the kill.
"No!"
I lunged forward, swiping the powder off the desk. "What the fuck dude?", Amelia asked. I looked at David. He knew why I did that. Then I looked at Ellie. She looked relieved. Hannah started laughing. There were no secrets here. No one said anything, but we all knew why I did that. We poured some shots of Jameson and said cheers. Here comes the parade.
We went down to the boardwalk. We were all in our little group. We laughed. We waved at the parade goers. I was happy. Shit. I have to get my interviews. I have to look at the miserable people. Those poor desperate fools. I need my story. I have to witness the decadence. I have to report! Here. The Wild Wild West Casino. It's just on the other side of that wall. I only need a minute.
I walked over to the building. Then I turned around. As I turned, so did Ellie. She looked at me. It was only a brief moment, but it was enough. She turned back to the parade. I was frozen. Frozen like the day I met her in the snack line in sixth grade. I knew if I walked through that door I'd never come back. What about the story? What about my side hustle? I need to stay afloat. What if I don't get the job? I'm sinking. This is my lifeline. This story is everything. I need this. I couldn't let go. I haven't seen her in a while. The last time I saw her I didn't think this much time would lapse before we would reunite. How much time would lapse now?
I walked back to my friends. I had to. We spent the rest of the day enjoying the parade. Enjoying the nice weather. The beach. The ocean. Enjoying each other. The company. The company of dear friends. The cost of friendship is -- it's priceless. It's easy, sometimes, to forget that. Somewhere in the mix David and I were separated. I stayed with the girls. We took a bus back to Hannah's house. We ordered food and watched Veronica Mars all day. I was not invested whatsoever in that show. I was invested in the time we spent though. Time with my friends. It was great. I knew that I wouldn't see Ellie for a while after that. Just a feeling.
I went home after dinner. What an amazing day. I fucked up the story though. I didn't have one. I went to my friend Steve's house. There were a bunch of people there. We all drank. I shared my Xanax with everyone. An hour later I yelled at everyone for stealing them. No surprise there. I was smashed. I was.. I was the one desperately putting coins in that slot machine. I lost. I was sad. Smile because it happened right? Why can't I just find the courage to say "Hey, I don't feel comfortable giving you cocaine. I don't want you to get hurt.". Everything was silently understood. That's just it. I don't want to be silent. I want to say that I like you. The way I tell every other girl I've liked. I wish I didn't get tongue tied with the only girl that actually matters to me.
I wouldn't see her again for a while. I also wouldn't write again for almost a year. I continued to press on. Back to the internship. Back to reality. I kept moving. Fucking boat against the current. I was terrified of being borne back ceaselessly into the past. I am no writer. No one takes my writing seriously. I have no story. I can't even cover a local parade. Ellie is gone. She's never coming back. She'll meet a better man. Someone who can talk to her. Tell her they love her. I have to be careful. Careful not to believe in that green light. That orgastic future that year by year recedes before me. Today I am right here. Sitting on the commuter train. Jotting down my failure into my little notebook. Scribbling nonsense that no one will ever read.
Silly rabbit. Tricks are for kids.

Will you dare read these stories?

Hi everybody, here are some stories that you might enjoy during this Quarantine time! They have been written by my students and are based on true events... Will you dare read these stories?
Scary story
The story takes place in Water Valley, Mississippi. My name is Emily and I live in a calm neighbourhood where people are really friendly. I am happy since I left my parent's house about one year ago. I live with my boyfriend and we consider founding a family. I love running in the magnificent local forests, once or twice a week. Last week, I was running in the woods at around 6 o'clock and I was almost at the half of my run when I realized that it was already getting dark but the sun usually sets 2 hours later during this period of the year. I instantly realized that I would not be able to finish my run so I called my boyfriend. Unfortunately, I was in an area without network coverage and my phone only had 10 percent of battery left. I decided to continue running to find an area with network. It was completely dark, I finally got a network coverage and I was able to call my boyfriend to pick me up. So, I stood there trying to distinguish shapes in the dark. Suddenly, I stopped breathing when I saw two red glowing eyes looking at me in the dark. It started getting closer and closer and doing inhuman sounds. I ran very fast in the opposite direction and I heard someone (or something) running behind me. I looked behind to see what it was and I immediately stumbled. When I turned around to get back on my feet, the "thing" wasn't there anymore and I saw car headlights. It was my boyfriend who had come to pick me up and when I entered the car I immediately ask him if he had seen anything. He answered that he didn't see anything. He asked me if I was injured and I said that I maybe had a sprained ankle. We went to the hospital where the doctor said that my ankle was badly sprained. After some research, I have deduced that "the thing" was a wendigo because the night has fallen faster than usual, it happened in the woods and there were inhuman sounds. Next time I'll be running I won't take the same path. I don't recommend you to run at night all alone in the woods.
When I was 16, I was living in Kos which is an island in Greece. I was living there with my father and my little brother. I don’t know my mother very well because she died when I was young but I never knew what happened. As a family, we used to go fishing because my father had a small fishing boat. It was amazing and we always wanted to go fishing but my father could only go on weekends with us because he worked during the week and he didn’t want to go there at night.
When I didn’t go to the sea with my father on weekends, I was spending my time with young people in my village. We played on the dike, we biked and we played PS2. A Saturday evening, I was going home with my friends and we didn’t really know what to do. Passing in front of my fishing boat, my friends had the fabulous idea to use it. Unfortunately, I disagreed because my father had advised me against it especially when my stupid brother was with us. I don’t know how but my friends managed to convince me and we used the boat. Our plan was just to make a one hour trip. After 15 minutes of sailing, we saw a small cave. I didn’t want to go in because I’m claustrophobic, but all of my friends were determinate to explore it. That’s why my friends decided to go in while I was staying at the entrance with my little brother who was really frightened. I let my brother play on my phone while I was watching the time go by and waiting impatiently for the return of my friends. My little brother is very clumsy and he dropped my Phone into the water. He immediately dived to recover it without even asking my opinion. I knew he could swim so I let him look for my phone because it would teach him a lesson. But after a lot of seconds I did not see him resurface. I was worried and started to panic. I decided to dive to look for him but I didn’t see anything under water because I’m myopic. The only thing I saw was the strange shadow of a woman. After I rised to the surface, I yelled at my brother but the only answer was a woman’s laugh. When my friends came back, I was crying and totally disoriented. They asked me what happened but I was too shocked to tell anything. They immediately called for help when they understood that my brother was missing. They kept looking for him for 2 weeks but the only thing they found was his necklace. Since I was young, I think it was the first time I saw my father cry. He decided to leave the island and never come back. For my eighteenth birthday he told me how my mother died. The strange fact is that my brother and her disappeared at the same place and my father and I heard the same sound. Legend says that mermaids lived in these waters.
The cyberspace legend
It has been said for decades that computers and technology will surpass us and even kill us. However, do you know if it is true or not ? Maybe the cyberspace legend can put you in the picture.
The story takes place more than 20 years ago in an office of the left tower of the twin towers, a young man on an internship in economics went to the computer room. He started working and, after half an hour, he left his computer but Internet Explorer was open. After his lunch break, he came back and went to the https//:travail.d.anglais.com/Pict page. The young man visited it as a normal page but did not know what was going to happen to him.
A few days after, the young man returned to his session and when he turned it on, it began to do weird things like opening various applications at the same time, writing green messages on a black background,... The young man found this weird and decided to turn the session off but each time it went off, it turned on again. He then thought of unplugging the computer but each time he approaches the plug, he received an electric shock. While the young man was trying to unplug the cable, he noticed that the PC next to it started to light up and had the same problem. The young man worried and called his friend who was a geek. He thought it was the best idea to save his internship. But, in doing so, he didn't know he was going to lose a loved one.
An hour later, his friend arrived at the tower and he joined him in the computer room. He looked at the PC and wondered how he was going to solve the problem. He started by trying to enter the basic lines of code against viruses, but it did not work so he tried a more complex code which should have had an effect, but did not. His friend had been trying different things for half an hour, but nothing worked. He began to lose patience and he furiously hit the keyboard with his hands. At that moment, he felt a violent electric shock that went through his entire body. After that, the virus had miraculously disappeared and the PC was functioning correctly.
A few hours later, the two friends went to a bar and as he was drinking the geek felt an electric shock when he swallowed. He wondered what was happening to him and the next morning he was feeling so bad that he could not get out of his bed. Worried, he phoned his friend to ask if he also had troubles getting up in the morning, but he didn’t. The geek explained his symptoms to his friend. During the all day, the geek’s friend wondered what disease his friend could have. At one point, he realized that the geek had the same symptoms as the computer when the virus was on it: weakening, poor connection and electrocution. The geek had caught one of the rare Interno biological virus.
This was the cyberspace legend that tells the story of a man who died of a computer virus.

Weird series of events in Daudzese
There is a Forest near my city named Aklais Purvs where strange events have happened. Some people from my town have mysteriously disappeared. There is an old lady in my town that everyone avoids because she’s always telling crazy stuff. One of her many stories is that she would have been taken away by the forest’s spirit 8 years ago when she was 30 but she’s in her seventies now (and there was a 30 years old lady who disappeared 8 years ago). Nobody really paid attention to her stories until recently when the story became real.
When she was 30, her passion was photography and she wanted to become a professional photographer. On the 29th of February 2012, she went in the forest to take pictures of the nature near the lake. She got off her job early and drove to the forest. She took pictures for hours then she wanted to go home but she couldn’t find her way back to the parking. She decided to walk until she found the Ranger’s office but when she found it, it was empty. She had been walking for about an hour when she noticed a voice that told her that she was trapped and that she had to follow it. She started to run thinking that she was followed by a weird man but she couldn’t find her way back. Hours later, she understood that she wouldn’t be able to escape so she followed the voice. She said that when she accepted to follow the voice, things started to change, everything started to become more colourful and beautiful. She thought she was going crazy so she took pictures. She couldn’t recognize anything. She stayed alone with the voice in this universe for what seemed like 40 years but when she got out she realized that only 4 years had passed in our world. The voice explained who they were and said that it was a kind of forest spirit who takes a woman wandering in his forest on every 29th of February. It chose her because it fell in love with her. She spent all this time looking for a way out and she found it. She is the first woman that was able to escape. When she came out, another lady had been missing for a few hours. She immediately thought about warning the villagers. Nobody listened to her for years until 3 days ago, when another girl went missing in this forest.
DANGER!
I have a good story.
It happened a few months ago. As we are in senior year, we had to choose a type of retreat and we decided to do the spiritual one. So, the concept is to walk a long distance during 4 days and to stop at different places. For example, we slept in a convent with nuns. We were a pretty small group of twelve students and a fearful teacher. During one of these nights, we suffered a kind of paranormal event. It was in the creepy house of “L’Epi” in Beauraing, more precisely at the Ardennes Street 57.
We arrived at that place at 5.00PM and the owner said that we could not enter in some of rooms without doing the sign of the cross before entering those rooms. We were tired and hungry, so we didn’t pay attention to the special atmosphere and we just talked to each other while we were waiting to go to eat in the convent. After that, we went to the blessed Virgin Mary apparition place. When we came back, we decided to visit the entire house and we just laugh about what the man said.
When we went to bed, we all felt an oppressive atmosphere, we slept upstairs but we heard doors banging on the ground floor. We started to freak out so we decided to gather all the crucifixes we found in the house to use them as a sort of protective barrier. Throughout the night, we could hear footsteps and creepy laughter coming from the “forbidden” rooms . The next morning, still frightened by the night, we decided to go downstairs together to see what had happened. Surprisingly, there was nothing special at first look but with a little more attention we noticed that there was a message written on one of the doors: "DANGER! ". We heard a voice far away without knowing where it came from, we realized that this voice was coming from an old radio and we distinctly heard voices that said "leave". We all quickly gathered our things and left this strange place. It was the strangest event of my life, I will never go back to this house again. I understood after all this that the owner's warnings were legitimate.

What happened last week to my uncle was actually incredible and scary. Let me tell you all about it.
It happened in a ghost town, in the middle of the US, where only a couple of people still live. They are about 80 surviving in this town called Atlantic City. My uncle is named Kyle. He moved there 3 months ago and, well, over the fact that he has a weird life, he is the richest and most powerful man in the area. Just as Al Capone in Chicago. He is not rich from good work but from cheating at games and he spends most of his time in casinos all over the US. And guess what, when he had enough money and was tracked everywhere he would go, he decided to build his own casino there, lost in the middle of Wisconsin. It’s not a big casino but he is making a lot of money out of it. Pretty fast, he became the king of that village. Everyone was scared of him and would obey whatever he was asking. He was living his best life: no police around, no competition. He was respected and admired.

As the town was in a valley and surrounded by quite a lot of woods, it was pretty often foggy, mostly in the morning and evening. My uncle had always liked nature so he would go for a walk in the forest every day. Atlantic City was a paradise for him; he had never been in such a green place. Before moving there, he was always living in big towns such as Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, etc. The best part is that Atlantic City is surrounded by mountains. The best hiding place! And nothing to do with San Francisco’s hills! Kyle didn’t mind the fog, he actually liked it. As he says: “Fog makes everything look scary and amazing at the same time.” For him, it’s just the sky saying hello to the ground. From the few contacts I have with him, he sent me pictures of the fogy forests and I agree with him, it looks wonderful. But I wouldn’t go for a walk in those conditions as he was doing. He was going on walks for hours, all by himself, with no backpack. He would just take a bottle of water and his phone. Not even a map. One day, he explained me that it was a game for him: walking in the forest until he got lost then finding his way back home by a different trail than the one he took to come. And the best of it: the view on the valley from the top of a mountain. I went there once and, trust me, it’s breathtaking! In conclusion, his only bad point was that he liked money and power too much. Otherwise, he was a really good man. He helped people, taught teenagers mathematics (because yes, my uncle went to Stanford University and is a very good mathematician) and cooked for some homeless person. Unfortunately, he was always asking for something in return. So, he had a personal driver, a secretary, a hairdresser, etc. After the crazy story that just happened to him, he became way nicer to people.

It happened on an evening; Kyle was coming back from his walk. It was foggy all over the forest and the town. He was walking on the main street, near the playground. Then, he heard some noises; something like a baby crying so he decided to get a closer look. He crossed the road and walked around in the playground. Nothing. So, he walked back to the road. As soon as he was on the street, the noise started again. My uncle is not the kind of person to get easily scared but he wanted to find out what was going on. He walked around the playground again. He didn’t find anything. When he went back to the street, he noticed an empty white car. The car wasn’t there when he first arrived at the playground and he didn’t hear it coming. He started to worry from that moment on. No one was in the street. Thus, me, that car literally appeared out of nowhere; no driver, no driving. So, Kyle took a closer look to the car and there, something weird happened: he saw someone looking at him in the car side mirror. At that particular moment, he got scared, the baby started crying again and the car started. My uncle couldn’t move, he couldn’t feel his legs anymore. He fainted. When he woke up, the car wasn’t there anymore and everything was quiet in the street. The night was falling so he ran back home and hid in his bed until the following day. During the day, he asked around if anyone knew anything about a baby crying and that kind of things. Only one old guy, from Equator, knew a legend about a baby killer, from his country. He told my uncle that it was a sign that death was near. Since then, Kyle came back to Florida. He is living with us from now on and he is haunted by this story. I’ll keep you guys updated on what’s happening here!
Hi everybody, I’m going to tell you about my last vacation.
As usual, three of us went to a cottage in the Ardennes. The street was empty because there’s only the cottage and another house that is rarely occupied. When we arrived, we saw that there was a new neighbour because the lights were on and to my knowledge this cottage wasn’t for sale the last time we came. So, we deducted that some people were there, but we didn’t care. Afterwards, we took the baggage, went into the chalet and we were finally ready to have fun.
Maxime and I went down in the cellar to turn the boiler on, but the door was open. We thought that we may have forgotten to close it the last time we came. We noticed that some garden tools were gone and footprints with mud were present on the floor. Max immediately phoned his father to get more information. When he got his dad on the phone, his dad said that we should not worry about it as it probably was the last tenants that were responsible of this. So, we turned the boiler on and got out of the cellar as fast as we could.
The first night was calm, there was just some music in the area because it was Raddadesh, a cult that is based not far from the cottage. But we never had any problems with them.
The next day, Jack and Max went to the forest at the back of the garden and they met the neighbour that was cutting some wood. When they told it to me, they also explained that this man had a scary look. It looked like he was in another world. Otherwise nothing to report: the evening went well and we drank a little.
During the evening, I went on the terrace to smoke a cigarette and I had noticed that there was a kind of red light far inside the forest and I called Max and Jack to tell them what I saw. When they came the light was gone. At this time, I thought it was a fire but I was certainly drunk.
After a good night of sleep, I decided to check if there were any traces of the fire in the forest because it seemed strange to me. After about 30 minutes of walk, I found nothing and I decided to retrace my steps. On my way back, I saw a clearing. In the center of it, there was a tree with an intriguing shape. I decided to take a picture of it. And when I approached, I saw a reddish trace on the side of the tree. At that moment, a shiver ran through my body and I decided to quickly return to the chalet. I didn't bother explaining what happened to Maxime and Jack. It was during the last evening that things went wrong. To enjoy it, we drank a lot, so much that I felt bad and I went out to get some fresh air around 1 a.m.. But I saw the fire again and I don’t know why but I decided to discover what it was. As I got closer, I heard music and I smelled a scent of burning. Suddenly, between two trees, I saw men with animal masks burning the tree-clearing. I was so terrified. I tried to run but I fell because of a rock and I remember nothing of what happened then. When I woke up, I was lying down at the entrance of the forest. I had a hellish headache but above all I had a severe pain in my whole left arm. I immediately realized that I had a hot iron mark that reminded me of the shape of the clearing tree. So, I decided to go back to the chalet and I saw a police car in the courtyard and when I was entered the house Maxime and Jack were relieved to see me again. They explained me they thought that I had been taken away. Moreover, the neighbour had also disappeared. Two months later, the neighbour was still missing and I still have some nightmares of men with masks.

To cover a story

Back on the wagon

I was just about 6 months sober when I moved from the suburbs of Philly to Atlantic City (mini Vegas) for a summer internship. I got there with no intentions to start drinking again. Once I got my internship hours at the casino I found out I'd be working nights. I wasn't able to make any AA meetings, stopped calling people back home, and was surrounded by alcohol and constant partying at the casino. I guess I got jealous of being constantly surrounded by people partying, and drinking all the time so I decided to see if I was really an alcoholic. I started drinking again, and surprisingly I was able to moderate. Since I started drinking again I've gone out around 10 times...never having more then 2-4 drinks. However, I don't think that would last long. I realized it was the reason I wanted to drink (pain) was the problem. 2-4 beers just wasn't satisfying me and I knew eventually I would have a case of the fuck-its. I wanted to get fucked up.
At 21 years old I am an alcoholic. Why I even thought it was okay to drink was beyond me. I've blacked out tons of times, got arrested, passed out on a city bench, spent tons of money on alcohol, was almost a daily drinker once, and just way too man negatives came from drinking yet I thought I wasn't that bad. It also runs in my genes.
I'm glad nothing bad happened during my relapse. I'm lucky I suppose. I am back re-committed to sobriety.

90 Days and I am starting to like my self :)

Just got 90 days for the second time, but this time is much different. I wanted to share a bit of my story to those who are new or struggling.
Grew up in a very privileged family outside Philadelphia (but in NJ) with non-alcoholic parents who were high achieving but mentally ill (depression, anxiety). I received those genes along with the pre-disposition to addiction that runs in my fathers side of the family. From about age 11-20 I suffered from severe social anxiety and depression. I didn’t drink that much during high school but I loved drinking because it made me forget about how depressed I was and my anxiety went away. Beginning of college consisted of blackouts and vomiting along with waking up the next day wondering what I did last night, and a life revolving around partying. Each time I woke up after blacking out or embarrassing myself I would get so anxious about what I did that it just increased the amount of anxiety I had along with the depression.
Eventually I started realizing I should avoid drinking so much. So I decided to start commuting to college and I worked on political campaign. I still partied but just not as much. The successful campaign increased my confidence a lot, and kept me away from the college parties but it also gave me some opportunities to drink with staff and politicians. Somehow I managed to never embarrass myself.
Next I studied abroad in the Netherlands. In hindsight this was a 6 month bender. My parents gave me a lot of money to spend so I found a group of expats who were hard partiers. We would party 4-5 nights a week. I loved it because I was of age in the NL to drink and of course the bars/clubs would stay open until the sun comes up. Also being able to buy weed in shops was cool. So during these 6 months I drank and drank and drank. Somehow I never got arrested or anything, probably because there’s no laws against public consumption or public intoxication…and.. well.. there aren’t much police in Holland. I also tried that famous Dutch ecstasy a few times. After I left the NL I decided I would try to stop drinking for 30 days when I got back. Only stayed sober a few days. Next I went to intern in Washington for a Congressman. Being back in America was weird, but it was alright because I had my best friend alcohol. I had a fake ID and there’s plenty of free booze to go around in DC. I missed a Congressional tour of the White House and interesting hearings due to hangovers. I woke up once in downtown DC on a bench after a Thursday night spent clubbing. Thought I definitely had a problem by then. Looked up an AA meeting and almost got there but decided to turn around because “It was too much of a ghetto area to be white and wearing a suit in.” so I kept drinking. Get back to college drinking every weekend and eventually get arrested for public intoxication. Then I proceeded to kick out the back window of the cop car window (and got maced) so I went to county jail for 16 hours until my parents bailed me out. The cops must have loved me I was being a smart ass, calling them uneducated, saying I’m gonna call the ACLU, screaming for a lawyer and much more embarrassing stuff.
Eventually I got sober and started going to AA meetings. I was sober for 6 months and had a few AA friends. However I was still miserable. I hadn’t changed a thing besides stop drinking. So I moved to Atlantic City for a summer internship. Lost my whole AA network, and stop going to meetings. Was working in a new casino and my office was on the gambling floor across from a bar. I was jealous of everyone drinking and me being miserable and suicidal. Inevitably I relapsed. During my relapse I found out I wasn’t just an alcoholic but I’m an addict whose drug of choice was alcohol. I found some Percocet’s and got high on them during my relapse. These were never my drugs to use but I was high on them and had an epiphany where I was also an addict.
Eventually I got back to the rooms and now am a few weeks from turning 22 and am sober. I started making big changes in my life. My anxiety is a normal levels, my depression is lifting, and I am starting to like my self. The people I hang out with, the food I eat, the activities I do. Small things did the most for me. I would make a chart on my wall at college on small goals to achieve that week. I would usually do most of them and now I do all of them. It feels good to accomplish stuff. I’ve also repaired all my relationships with my family members. I love my family now and it feels good to let them back in my life. I’ve been making all the right moves towards getting a PhD in Political Science to become a professor. I’m really thankful for arresting my addiction at such a young age. I have my whole life ahead of me now. I am also lucky to have been able to use so many resources that most don’t have (psychologist, psychiatrist, addiction counselor, AA network, sober uncle, rich family, and even a random redditor who helped more than she probably realizes).
Well I realized I wrote much more than intended. TL;DR: Being sober but not changing anything is torture.

Questions Answers
So if he was making more than 500k it would be okay in your book? That's pretty messed up. Seems like I'd be even more of a piece of shit if I was that successful.
Are you involved much with the general goings on of the casino? If so, what goes through your head when you see huge amounts of money being gambled away by someone who doesnt know when to walk away? Yes, I'm an executive so I'm in touch with most everything that goes on. Most of the time when I see something like that, I just say "good for us" and try not to think about whether or not the person can afford it or not.
How much do you make a year? Unless you are making like $500,000+, then you are a piece of shit. you are destroying thousands of people's lives so that you can make a living and afford your bmw and other status symbols. I don't make $500K a year so I guess that makes me a piece of shit.
What is the worst most tasteless thing you or the casino in general did to make money? I, obviously, like to think I'm uber classy. But in general I think paycheck cashing promotions are pretty tasteless. E.g., Cash your paycheck and get 5% of the total value in free slot play.
Can you ELi5? Sorry, to me that just sounds like you hand over your $1000 you earned, and get back $50? Which seems wrong...? Or do you get an extra $50? Hmmm... Thoroughly confused myself. Let's say your check is $1,000. The casino will cash your check and then also give you $50 in promotional credits to be used on the slot machines. The idea is that since we've given you some "free" money to begin playing the machines you will also dip into the $1,000 cash that we also handed you.
Are there any clauses that prevent you from just spending the $50 in free bets and cashing out the $1k without actually playing with it? No, you get the $1K in cash and the $50 can only be used in the slot machine. I've done this once when I started my new job and my direct deposit wasn't set up yet so they issued me a live check.
How many people just walk directly out of the casino after cashing the check with their 5% bonus? I don't know, I've never run this promotion but generally speaking when we give away promotional credits, the "walk rate" is in the 25% range.
How often do you go to the strip clubs in vegas? If you go how much do you spend? Do you get treated better if they know what your job is? I really don't like them so not often unless someone is in town that wants to go. I don't have a moral objection, just think it's a waste. "Hey do you like to eat steak? Give me $20 to smell this delicious steak! No, you can't try it!!!".
So that having been said, I might spend $20 to give to the girls on the stage and maybe a lap dance.
No, I don't get treated better because of my title really. They usually just care about how much money you spend and that's it.
What are some sneaky strategies that you use to get people to spend more money? I don't mean obvious things like having ATMs...but things related specifically to gambling.. Ummm... Off the top of my head I think the sneakiest thing is probably side bets on table games (e.g., play an extra $5 and if your two cards are a pair then you win $25) because the odds are terrible or things like advertising low table game limits but modifying the rules (e.g., blackjack pays 6:5 vs 3:2) to increase the house advantage.
Some casino customers are super cheap and only play $1 Blackjack. Others are whales and the casino spends a lot of money to attract them, but they are rare. Somewhere in between, I imagine, there are customers who spend a significant amount and exist in numbers to make most of the casino's profits. First, we quantify most everything by "theoretical worth". That is, how much we can expect to win from you based on the house advantage of the game you play and how long you play. The general formula is decisions per hour X house advantage X hours played X average bet. So, $25/hand at blackjack X 1.5% house advantage X 2 hours played X 60 decisions per hour = $45 in theoretical worth.
Is that true? How much does a "bread and butter" customer gamble in a day? Second, It really depends on the particular property. The number is a lot higher for Wynn then it would be at Joker's Wild (a really, really dumpy casino on the outskirts of Vegas). That having been said, most places will be very happy to have you if you are in the $150-300 a day in theoretical worth range.
That sounds pretty affordable. Assuming a 30% comp return I guess that comes out to $50-90 in comps a day. 30% includes the stuff we send you in the mail generally too so at the $300 range you could expect a room and a meal a day.
What kind of awful rules are you using to have a 1.5% house advantage, or is that number based on the average player being really terrible? How much in comps would I actually generate for two hours of $25 a hand Blackjack? I just threw the 1.5 number out there. We also factor in skill into house advantage so as to be more favorable to the player, comp wise. comp wise we'd probably give you 15% of the $45, or $6.75. That's just in what we call discretionary comps that the pit supervisor or host can give you. Then you could expect another 30% in the mail via free bets, hotel, food, etc.
I guess you need to register with the casino loyalty club so you know what we are spending. Correct.
I currently reside in Arizona, where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an Indian reservation and - as a result - a casino. Well I've worked all over the country and, yes, of course we always keep an eye out on new competition that would impact our existing customer base, especially as the business has seen much more legalization in new jurisdictions in the past 20 years.
The casino/resorts are getting increasingly sophisticated. Better facilities, better entertainment, and better marketing. For Vegas, I think most strip properties have dealt with this by investing in properties in regional markets so as to send their customers to their Vegas properties so it is pretty accretive. Someone from Harrah's Ak-Chin in the Phoenix area gets offers from Harrah's Las Vegas quite often.
Is this something the Vegas casinos consider a rising threat, welcome competition, or something else? How do you - as a marketing guy - react to the fact that a trip to a casino no longer necessarily means a trip to Nevada or New Jersey? The bigger problem really is for the markets where they were a monopoly for some time and really rested on their laurels. Reno and Atlantic City come to mind. Those markets are dying fast and there really isn't much upside. In Atlantic City, for example, you have casinos buying competitors just to close them so as to reduce the inventory.
What really happens when somebody wins on a slot machine? Like, what is the behind the scenes stuff that we don't see? Are they checking out the cameras to make sure it was that specific person before they payout? What if you switch seats? What if an underage gambler wins?... What if they switch seats with an of-age gambler?? Honestly, I've never done that, but I've always wondered the underage stuff because I've never ever got carded on slots! I've won hand-pays before (nothing really exciting) and they always hit me with the tax form. What do you guys do with the tax form? Does it get sent out from you guys or does it remain my responsibility from thereon? I worked as a slot analyst (analyzing machine performance) years ago and never on the floor so I don't know/remember the exact steps. Essentially, though, it's verifying that the machine is functioning properly and recording the details of the jackpot for audit/regulators. If it is a taxable jackpot ( >= $1,200) then we are required to fill out the IRS W2G form to report it to them for tax purposes so at that point we have to get your ID, etc. to facilitate that. Then of course, there is the matter of actually paying you the money, verifying that it is the correct amount, etc. The tax form does get sent to the IRS. You can request the taxes not be taken out of your jackpot as you are only taxed on the net win at the end of the year.
How did you get involved in the casino bussiness? 1/2.) Just needed a job and applied to a very entry level job and worked my way up.
Did you set out to work at one or did it come about another way? 3.) It can be fun and exciting.
What do you enjoy most about your job? Least? 4.) There's a lot of pressure to make money/meet your budget so all of the bullshit that goes along with that. Dealing with politics, having to adjust staffing, etc. And I don't like that at my level the usual tenure is 2-3 years so you move around a lot. I'd like to be more settled, especially in a place I'd really want to live for a long time and I don't feel like I have much control of that in this business.
1) When you talk about being moved around a lot, is that relating to being moved around in what you do at a particular casino? or more like which casino your working at? 2) Do you feel that your skills at this current job gives you fallback options should your tenure run out? ( Such as in other service based industries?) 1.) I mean there is only one of me at every casino so if something happens whether I don't like where I work or what something different (e.g., more money) or they don't like me (shocking, it happens!) then the likelihood that I have to move is high, especially if I'm in a city that only has a handful of casinos. 2.) I obviously feel like my skills could take me anywhere! But in reality, it has been tough to change industries when I've tried. Usually places like hotels don't pay as much as casinos and look for more sales-related skills and restaurants don't really have marketing people except at the corporate office whereas my skills are more analytics-oriented. And both usually pay less than casinos.
time I went to Vegas (around 30 years ago) it still had that "mob" vibe. When I got married there in the 90s (I joke now that I gambled on marriage in Vegas and lost half my stuff) it was much more "corporate" and "family friendly." The "What Happens in Vegas" campaign seemed to try and change that perception. Do you think there's value in returning Vegas to a more "wise guy" kind of feel...playing up the classic vibe, or is it just a big collection of theme parks with gambling? The problem with returning to that type of vibe is that it's difficult/impossible given how big the casinos are. Sure it was easy for Benny Binion to control everything and not be "corporate" when the old Horseshoe was literally 1/10th the size of MGM Grand.
What was UNLV like? Did you live in the dorms? It seems like a strange school where everyone commutes and there's no college life around the campus. What are the pros and cons of going there? I went there for grad school so was older and had a wife and a house. It is definitely a commuter school so there's not a lot of school spirit. I went to undergrad a school with a huge, huge, huge, football program so it was a bit of a change for me. I also didn't find the students to be terribly bright (with exceptions, of course). On the upside, a lot of people like living in Vegas and the Hotel Administration College (where I went) has very, very good brand recognition.
Do you find people have lots of misconceptions about the casino industry? That the games are rigged and that we love giving away a lot for nothing/little in return are probably the two biggest.
So what's up with prostitutes and the casinos? I understand that prostitution is illegal in Vegas, but that they're still there. Is it like the movies, where they're just hanging out in the casino bars waiting to be picked up? Yes, they hang out at the bars and then there are services you can call and have them sent to your room. If it's overt, casino security will clear them out of the bar area but the vice cops generally focus on human trafficking kind of stuff.
As an insider, what do you think the job prospects are in the industry for someone with a similar education background, but no casino experience? 1.) The industry relies heavily on industry experience so job prospects are good if you're willing to start in a low position and work you're way up. If you go to UNLV and get the degree I got and expect for some casino to make you a Director of VP with no experience then you're going to be very disappointed.
Is that just bizarre luck? 2.) Bizarre luck.
What does the industry think about states with Indian reservations that prohibit casinos like Texas? 3.) Definitely potential opportunity. I've read about that small tribe in Texas. It'll happen eventually in Texas. The people in Louisiana will not be happy, though.
Is it viewed as a potential opportunity for growth with a small tribe, more competition, or a wedge to open the state to gambling? 4.) No problem!
For every average person out there, would you suggest not playing? I mean, in the sense that, it's just not a viable option? Viable for what? Making consistent money? Then definitely not. If you are entertained by thrill of gambling and have the discretionary funds to do it, then by all means.
Aw okay! cool. Any idea why people do it? Is it just a thrill? Would being a "whale", make more of a difference? For the people that do it for entertainment, it's the thrill of anticipation.
Was it hard getting a job with such a detailed degree? My undergrad degree is pretty bland, political science, so it wasn't hard at first. I did my grad degree in casino management because I was living in Vegas, wanted to get an MBA, didn't want to take 2 years off from work to get a full-time degree, didn't have the support of my job to get an executive MBA, and didn't like UNLV's MBA program.
EDIT: Thanks for answering my first AMA question! Really good answer too! NP! Keep asking away!
What's your favorite aspect of your job? And do you like to gamble yourself? 1.) It can be exciting. Picking new acts to play in your showroom seems more exciting to me than selling propane. 2.) Yes...
What is the best way for tourist to get the best bang for buck in your casino for entertainment, food, gambling etc to have a good time and not go broke? I'm currently working at a Vegas strip property.
If you can answer in terms of Vegas, that would be great also. Unless you have something more specific in mind, the first place I'd direct you to is the Las Vegas Advisor Top 10 Deals List.
With legal online poker gaining momentum which might mean eventual legal online gambling for other house games online; are the casinos doing what they can to kill this before it starts or your thoughts on this? Las Vegas Sands / Venetian is actively trying to kill it (which I don't really understand) but everyone just sees it as a means to make more money so are ready to pounce when it's legal.
I don't know if you're still answering questions, but what are the qualifications for being, say, a Texas Hold'em Dealer in Vegas, specifically your casino, and are the dealers specific to just one game? I.e. omaha, hold 'em, pai gow, stud... Also, without being too specific, what is the average annual income for said occupation? Are the dealers payed solely by tips/do they get to keep all tips? 1.) Generally there are poker dealers and table games (e.g., blackjack) dealers. Few do both. Among the table games dealers, most know multiple games as the more you know the more hirable you are. In terms of the qualifications it's just that you've gone to some sort of dealer school (there are commercial ones and some casinos do it in-house), experience, and a live audition. 2.) Really depends on the market and the casino. At the high end like Wynn or Venetian they will do close to $100K/year but at an entry-level place it could be more like $25K/year. It's base salary plus pooled tips (aka tokes).
3.) You've never thought of dealing the WSOP? They need as many dealers as they can find.
Do Casino's design their decor for different target groups? Of course. Hard Rock and Cosmo are designed for younger demographics and Wynn and Venetian for older affluent ones.
I find all Casino's to be outright horrible to my senses due to the noise/flashing lights. Encore and the new Barrymore are definitely designed for the Asian gambler. And you'd, obviously, have to assume the casinos in Macau are, too, although I've never been.
Could you describe your typical work day? also I've had some great times a Joker's Wild! Ha! I honed my dice skills at JW!
Typical work day is get to work and look at the previous day's financial results and react accordingly. I.e., ask the analysts to pull numbers, talk to the head of a certain department about their opinion on something, etc.
Emails emails emails.
Then it's usually a lot of meetings about upcoming things whether it be planning an event, approving new advertising, doing the strategic planning for the property for 2015, meeting with vendors, etc.
Emails emails emails.
By this time the numbers or reports I've asked to be run are ready so I sit down and look at them and act accordingly (e.g., hey, looks like we're spending too much on postage to mail to customers too far away, let's change the way we do this for next time), etc.
Emails emails emails.
Then it's usually time to go home but 2-3 times a week I'll have a dinner or event to go to with a vendor or colleague or someone from the press.
Emails emails emails.
Probably 2-3 Saturdays a month I'll go in and work for a few hours just to catch up on stuff or if there's an event to meet and greet players, make sure everything is going well, etc.
Emails emails emails.
Has the rise of 6:5 blackjack been hurting the game's popularity, or are there enough people who don't "get" the odds change (or don't care) that it all works out in the end? Is the odds change enough to swing the game back in the casino's favor in the long run even if players count cards? And what about continuous shuffling machines: have any of the casinos you've been with used them, and how did the players react? The masses don't care about either especially if you're able to offer low limits. The limit and the number of decks is what attracts people to a bj game. Still never going to allow counting.
Is is harder to get jobs in the background or management functions of the casino? Well certainly there are more what we call "front of house" positions (dealers, porters, servers, bartenders, etc.) than "back of house" positions (accountants, IT, warehouse, etc.) so in terms of pure numbers, yes it's easier to get -any- FOH than -any- BOH position.
I'm an IT grad looking to move back to Vegas and wondered if there were more "non-floor" jobs than actually functional jobs. That having been said, if you're wanting an IT position shouldn't be too hard if you're willing to work anywhere and have a little experience. If you're wanting to just jump into the CIO job at Bellagio, more difficult.
Great! thank you. I've got about 8 years under my belt, but dear god...no CIO for me. This really eased my worry about options. thanks. You should be OK as long as you're not too picky.
Just how rigged are the automatic roulette machines? They aren't. The games have to go through pretty rigorous testing by the state or an agency of the state to be allowed to be sold. Gaming Labs International is one such company.
I would think that SEO campaigns and similar web based marketing would be ineffective techniques for a casino in a place like Las Vegas. Is this the case? I know I'm quite late but I would love to know if you have time. We definitely do SEO/SEM campaigns but primarily for hotel related keywords for people looking for hotel rooms. I worked at a place a little outside of the main city in the south one time and we'd buy broader search terms for people looking for "entertainment in main city" in case they didn't know there was a casino nearby.
Thanks for the response. I was just curious about engaging people in person in public? Do you operate campaigns on the street such as call to action flyers or similar? Are there laws specific to this type of promotion in Las Vegas? Not a typical marketing channel most casinos explore, but it's not entirely unheard of. Sorry I'm not entirely sure of the laws.
Who owns the casino you work at? Is it one guy or a publicly traded company? I'd rather not say as I don't want to be outted but I have worked for large publicly traded companies, privately held companies (e.g., owned by hedge funds), and publicly traded companies where one individual owns the majority of the shares. I've never worked at a privately owned casino owned by one individual, though.
How do I get over 65 year olds excited about my product? Without knowing what said product is, the best thing I can say is to figure out how to make it relevant to them.
What does a marketing exec. at a casino make a year? Depends on the size of the property. 75 at a small riverboat casino to 250 at a large place like Bellagio.
To succeed in marketing, what is the first step to landing a successful job? and what should be the over arching goal in mind to maintain a competitive advantage over fellow competition as well as new shifts in market trends? 1.) be tenacious. take any job you can get. be a sponge and learn everything you can.
2a.) don't be afraid to fail, but be smart (and profitable) about it.
2b.) don't rest on your laurels. stay in touch with your customers.
Go on ... What does a casino do in that regard? From a gambling standpoint, people in that age range like penny slots so we offer a lot of penny slots. We put on shows that would appeal to them. We would make the decor more classic vs hip. Etc.
I've always wanted to work in the gaming industry. I have a strong sales background and a B.S. degree... which department would you recommend to get my feet wet? Probably player development which is the department that deals with VIP guests or maybe special events/promotions.
What's the best movie you've seen this year? You did say we could talk about life in general... Absolutely! 12 Years a Slave.
Edit: Also, Dallas Buyer's Club.
Dang, haven't seen it yet...will have to wait for it on DVD or streaming. Edit: Haven't seen that one either. I'm starting look like a Philistine. It's pretty heavy but sometimes that's good.
Do you prefer to market for families or adults? Casinos are adult fun, but I've noticed a shift in the past decade. Definitely adults.
Your AMA was one of the best, you answered almost every question, so if you're still answering here's one: If a young person comes in and wins more than 100k and then just leaves, would you suspect him/her of anything? It really depends more on the manner in which you win and how you behave. We're required by law to fill out a Currency Transaction Report for transactions over $10,000. So if you got to that point you would have already given us your ID, etc. We'd obviously make sure that surveillance is watching you to make sure you're not cheating but if you're on a random hot streak and betting $10K/hand then it wouldn't be a huge deal at most strip properties.
How about a free load just this once? lol. But hypothetically what would 10 grand get you :( At my place, (which is not an uber classy place like Wynn or Venetian), you'd get pretty much whatever you'd want. Suite, dinners, limo from the airport, show tickets, etc. We'd generally reinvest in you 30% of your loss so just figure out what $3,000 in comps would get you.
What advice can you give to new grads who want to get into marketing, but can get work due to lack of experience? As I mentioned in a previous post, I believe you really just need to be tenacious and take anything to get your foot in the door. It's a very crowded field, especially on the what I call "pretty picture" side of marketing. I wish I had a more specific answer to give you.
What does being a marketing executive involve? I usually say I'm in charge of driving profitable revenue. The departments that report up to me are charge of advertising, promotions, entertainment, public relations, direct mail/database marketing, and VIP marketing.
I'm coming to Vegas in December from Australia, can you PM me your email address? Just PM me. Happy to see if I can help
Do casinos hire interns? I'm currently a student at a public university. Absolutely. I think most of the major companies have management training/internship programs. Go to their careers websites. Caesars Entertainment, MGM International, Pinnacle Entertainment, Penn National Gaming, etc.
Would you recommend a job in marketing? what skill sets would be helpful for marketing? i'm interested in it but not entirely sure what it's about. I think the best combination in today's world is to be more right brained with a creative bent as more and more the question asked of marketing folks is "quantify how your idea makes me money?" and less and less "what's the most most creative idea you have?"
It's a crowded field especially on the left brained side (e.g., advertising and public relations) because people think it's "cool". So if that's you're interest, I'd say being tenacious and creative is what is going to get you far in that world because it's tough to get your foot in the door and you have to have thick skin and then when you do get your foot in the door you are going to have a very short leash to prove yourself.
Any specific company you recommend? If you're at the intern stage, apply liberally.
Do you have the sides backwards, or do I? Um, well I think of left brained as creative and right brain analytical?
How selective is the casino management program at UNLV? The hotel management program in general is not selective but the casino management program is difficult because it's pretty quantitatively-focused so there's a lot of attrition.
What do you do for family entertainment in Vegas? I'm single so that having been said, there's all your typical family stuff to do here: parks, camping, hiking, movies, bowling, etc.
You don't have any family in Vegas? What's something that you go do with your friends, then? I'm not from here and my ex-wife hated living here thus why she's my ex. My friends and I go and see concerts, go to bars, we like guns so go shooting sometimes, and most Sundays cook for each other.
Sounds like a nice life! It's OK. City is kind of soulless and superficial.
One of my favorite aspects of Vegas is that if you want your experience to improve, it's usually a strategic $20 tip away... whether that be a tip to upgrade your room when you check in, to skip the long line at a club, to get a table with a great view at dinner... What potential 'Experience' improvements would you recommend in Vegas? Link to thetwentydollartrick.com
Vegas or Macau. Which is better? Better for what?
Have you read The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester? I haven't.
So basically I should just buy from the half off kiosks? Yes.
How do you feel about those who are addicted to gambling and those who have lost everything because of it? Bad, obviously.
Late to this ama, are you still taking questions? Sure!
Sure buddy. Do you mean to say that you don't believe me?
I just got started in hospitality marketing, any advice? Doing what, exactly? Just be willing to make not a lot of money for awhile and be willing to relocate frequently if you want to move up the ladder. I guess those are the first things that come to mind.
Have you had any good marketing ideas that you couldn't do due to marketing regulation. Not necessarily due to regulation but a lot of times you're gun-shy to do a promotion because well, what happens if no one shows up?
Bastard. Danka.
